CHANTAL DUMAS

CHANTAL DUMAS
Sound artist Chantal Dumas explores the medium of sound through sound installation, radio drama and composition. Her work favors a participatory dimension : to stage, to play, to make an experience happen, and thrives on collaborations (dance, poetry, visual arts, music).
She has produced more than 25 radio art pieces based on processes of sound narration. Practioner of field recordings, her works are built from and around found sounds. Meanwhile she continues with sound installation, questioning the relationship between mobility, sound, space and the listener.
Her work is widely broadcasted on foreign public radios and presented at international festivals. She won in 2010 an Opus Prize and Bohemia Award (Czech Public Radio), and in 1997 and 2000 Phonurgia Nova Award in France (documentary and radio fiction). Artist in residence at the Studio in NYC Calq, EMI (NYC), Eastlink Gallery (Shanghai, China), Goethe-Institut, Oboro, PRIM (Montreal), Sporobole (Sherbrooke).
In 2013, she presented her performance Klassenzimmer 2 with Marc Boivin at the Goethe-Institut (Montreal) and inaugurated the Sporobole Sound Window (Sherbrooke) with 86400 seconds.
Mario Gauthier
Audio artist, Independant researcher, professor
After having contributed to the foundation of the Société de Concerts Alternatifs in 1985 (now Codes D’accès), I became a Radio Producer for the Chaîne Culturelle de Radio- Canada. I received, for my artistic contribution in this field, the Opus Award / Media Event of the Year, in 2002.
As an audio artist, I work sometimes in solo, but more currently in collaboration, particulary with Theresa Transitor, an electroacoustic improvisation quartet (Opus Award / New Music concert of the Year, 2006). I am also a independent researcher in new music, in phonography and in sound creation. Lately I acted as teaching assistant in radio broadcasting, archivist and project manager for various organizations (UQAM, Le Vivier, Phonothèque Québéquoise, CEC, Circuit magazine, etc..).
I am actually teaching Musical Litterature and Computer Sound Design at the Vincent-D’Indy School of Music. I also occasionally collaborate with the Globe Sonore web radio, and as adviser and interviewer for the Creationsonore.ca group of U. of Mtl, directed by Serge Cardinal.
