The Pacific watershed is considered to  include the largest variety of landscapes even though it is mostly comprised into the Pacific maritime and Mountain Cordilliera ecozones.

The included photos on this page will give an overview of some of the regions the project covered. From semi desertic areas to high snowy mountain peaks, and from majestic salmon rivers like the Skeena flowing down to the Inside Passage, amidst the rain forest mostly inhabited by ravens and bears.

The Columbia and Fraser rivers take their source on the west side of the Snow Dome where the Great Divide separates the Arctic and Pacific watersheds. From its source the Fraser goes through regions and landscapes of extreme contrasts ranging from snowy peaks and prairies to desertic canyons and thick forests before reaching the Pacific in Vancouver.

Time here cannot be though linearly as we are not in a place of evolutive changes, but in an organism with multiple contrasting states of being.

Prairie

Northern portion of the Fraser. Between the ranges of the Coastal Mountains to the west and the edgesof the Rockies to the east lies a plateau favorable to agriculture and related industries. An undramatic but welcome feature in this northern part of BC dominated by high peaks and wild forests.

Cassiar

When I mentionned going down the Cassiar Hwy, to drive south from the Yukon, my hosts at the campground advised me to check with them in the morning and get the latest news on the road reports. Due to weather conditions, the partially paved road is subject to frequent closure. It runs through the Cassiar Mountains a largely uninhabited stretch of wilderness over 700 km long that connects to the Yellowhead Hwy, along the Skeena.

Main industries: forestry, mining and outdoor activities. Bear viewing garanteed.

Skeena

K-shian: «water from the clouds» as the Tsimshian know it. Big, old, huge and greenest masses of mountains with snowy peaks and high waterfalls encase the Skeena, the CN track and road 16. The Skeena is one of the last large rivers in Canada to be untamed and relatively healthy. It is the home of several types of pacific salmon and the Spirit Bear.
