For practical reasons, I chose for the project to treat as one single watershed the large basin that encompasses the largest part of Central Canada.

The rivers of this basin actualy form (according to some interpretations) several watersheds if one considers the waters flowing north-east from the Rockies into the Hudson Bay and the the ones flowing north into the Mackenzie and the Beaufort Sea.

A remarkable geographical feature at the headwaters of this area is the Snow Dome in the Columbia Icefield. From there the rivers flow into three drainage basins, north, east and west to the Pacific.

The Arctic watershed encompasses many different ecozones displaying aa varied palette of landscapes including sub-arctic areas of the Hudson Plains, Canadian Shield, the Prairies, the Rockies, boreal cordilliera and Taïga to the north.

From source to destination I have mostly followed the two Saskatchewan Rivers drainage basins.

Rocheuses

After the straight line of the road went up and down for a while over rolling hills, comes this moment where a wide bar of clouds appears in the far distance as a barrage over ground. Moments later the gigantic range of peaks emerge as a wall in the hazy horizon. Two hours later you are engulfed into the most disproprtionate and extravagant accumulation of forms. The Mountain Cordilliera defines other logics and other modes of perception.

Arctique

This part of northern Yukon lies in the Arctic watershed, with rivers flowing north towards the Mackenzie (Deh Cho). It is just around the tree line and features a landscape of high moutains with large spacious valleys where, for a short period early september, nature flashes a wide spectrum of vivid colours as snow starts covering the peaks and passes. «Larger than life» they say.
